Why I love baseball and some 2012 Storylines

To me, baseball is more than being just a fan. It is a lifestyle.

The things baseball brings to me are more than just memories. It’s great times. It’s the struggle you go through when rooting for your favorite team. It’s watching young talent grow up and become great players.

It’s listening to the stories of all baseball fans, young and old. It’s the memories that come from going to games. It’s the ups and downs of the season, the intense passion that baseball brings to me.

That baseball goes on for 180 days and we get to see 162 games from our favorite team is special.

I love and embrace baseball and have ever since I was a kid. I always had that dream of one day playing in Major League Baseball, or just being a part of MLB.

I take pride in being not only a Mets fan (by the way, I bleed blue and orange), but also being a baseball fan in general. That’s why I feel I would be an ideal person for this position. I embrace all aspects of baseball, and it’s not just a game to me.

To me there are more than just three storylines in MLB this upcoming year.

First, it’s the Marlins.

Living here in South Florida, and seeing the lack of passion by the baseball fans here, upsets me; but now, with their seemingly new idea of how to win, and willingness to spend money, the Marlins are trying to create some passion for baseball in an otherwise anemic market. I hope and believe this is a new direction for the Marlins, and I hope people here in South Florida are just as excited to see this team play now.

It helps that their new stadium is amazing and will keep out all that bad South Florida weather, from rain delays to hot days.

The Marlins’ organization did try to spend big in 1997, only to have a fire sale immediately thereafter.

Fans who think that this will happen again are crazy.

The new ballpark and more revenue that the team will earn now will allow them to compete in the NL East not just in 2012, but well beyond that.

The second storyline is the Mets. Being from Long Island originally, and living here in Port St. Lucie – the spring training home of the Mets – the loss of shortstop Jose Reyes signals to me, at least, that this team is now officially rebuilding.

In the past, the Mets have always tried to sign that one guy who should put them over the edge, and yet, it hasn’t worked for them in decades, and it’s sad to see Reyes go. But I think in the end, the Mets well be a better team without him.

I understand the disgust Mets fans have now with him leaving, but think about this Mets fans: What has he done for us lately – if ever? He has missed a huge number of games in the past two years, and as electric as he could be, at time, they can and must go on without him.

The third and final big storyline for 2012 has to be the Boston Red Sox.

If you look at all the talent on that team, it was shocking to me, and I’m sure all baseball fans, to see their collapse in 2011. They are too talented to have that happen and with the addition of manager Bobby Valentine, there is going to be an amazing improvement this coming season over last. There could be no better face for that franchise than in Valentine.

I’m confident Sox fans will ultimately see this once the 2012 season gets underway.

Football vs Baseball

Today I was reading some of the other blogs  on the sidrosenberg.com  and I came across one written about how excited someone said they are for football . I understand that football is now the most watched sport in america and baseball can no longer claim the title as the national pastime and that understandable but for you to sit there and say that all summer that it has been all about the lockout then you are missing something if you call yourself a sports fan I dont know what team you like but the Mets have made this a great summer for me so far and the only reason that they lockout had you excited was ESPN was feeding it to you 24-7 and even if your not a Mets fan there has been plenty to buzz in baseball besides the Mets here in south florida the Marlins at times give hope to the fans , with new park coming it might help them are we forgetting the fun that has been in Cleveland as a team that has been in medicority for years now aquired a number 1 guy and is going for it,even the lowly guys in Pittsburgh have brought fans back to that great baseball city. There are so many great stories that are in baseball now to say that NFL is just perfect your wrong there are just as many bad teams in the NFL as in MLB Lions Panthers Browns Miami Bills Bengals and I can go on . Preseason is not fun to watch at all and with the lame ass practices these players have wonder how great the NFL season would be with a huge rash or injuries Like I said baseball may not be number 1 but talk to me when October rolls around and I will be loving my baseball and meaningful games in the NFL.

Where is the passion at for Marlins Fans

Last night, I got the pleasure of going to an MLB game. I was excited as I always am to see pro players go do their thing. I have to start out by saying this game was in Miami at Sun Life Stadium. For all of you who have never been there, it is a football stadium first. Now I am not a fan of the local team -- the Marlins -- however, I am a fan of their rival the Mets, so of course I go there wearing my Mets jersey and as always/ I ran into to some fans of other teams.

Just in the parking lot there were Yankees fans who travel everywhere it seems even if their team isn't playing there and what happens as we sit there tailgating he starts to talk shit to me just because I am in a Mets jersey. He was one of those cocky Yankees fans who just ragged on the Mets. I ignore it and go inside now. And this is where the night gets interesting.

As I am walking up to my seats I see more Marlins fans which is great. Also see some Cardinals fans. I walk past the stand where they sell hats and other stuff and what do I see but a David Wright jersey. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. They weren't even playing the Mets and yet there was Mets gear for sale.

I said to myself, "Why?"

How could you be selling another teams gear in your store? The night gets better. As the game starts, the place is half empty they have the upper deck closed off so you can tell how big the stadium really is. The place is quiet, but as the night went on, it filled up nicely -- but the place remained quiet. I think I heard more comments about me being a Mets fan and my buddy wearing a Yankees hat than I heard "Let's Go Marlins" chants.

Then as the Cardinals went ahead going into the 9th inning, you would think that Marlins fans would get up and put some rally caps on. But no they didn't. They quietly sat there as they made an out -- then not until they loaded the bases did the Marlins fans even stand up.

As a baseball fan first, it made me angry to see that these fans didn't seem to have any of passion for their team and it's sad to go to a park and see it half empty and more chatter among people than really cheering for the team.

It made me lose a lot of respect for Marlins fans and made me think twice about taking that two-hour drive to see them play if it's not fun going to the game. I would rather go see the St. Lucie Mets play because even the passion and fun factor there is better than for this so-called Big-League club.

I hope with the new stadium coming to the Miami Marlins next year that fans who like this club start to get behind them, because they have a good young core of players and a direction that is going places. The new park is indoors and comes with all the amenities.

I just hope that this is what the Marlins need to help made baseball fun in South Florida.

A little bit about The Mouth

Thanks for checking out my new website. Joel the Mouth here and in case this is your first visit, Welcome to the Fan Forum! The Fan Forum is the place for you, the fan, to be heard. Before we get down to the real deal, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a transplanted New Yorker now living in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, home of the St. Lucie Mets and spring training location for the New York Mets. I am 31 years old, and a Mets fan since birth. However, baseball is not the only sport I know. I love football, basketball, hockey, soccer, boxing, and basically anything that you want to talk about. If I don't know about it, I will research it. The teams that go along with these sports of mine are; Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat (Pre Lebron), New York Islanders and Florida Panthers,my all time favorite boxer is Mike Tyson, for the way he dominated his fights with KO's.
Along with my passion for sports, I have always had a passion for radio and broadcasting. I am a graduate of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, Westbury, New York campus. While living in New York, I had my own local radio show, paid for through local advertisers. However, I am not just the man behind the mic, I produce my own commercials, look up my own stats, I love taking questions from emails, twitter, and callers, and broadcasting them on my current show, The Fan Forum, on shovio.com.
The reason why I am so interested in sports talk is because I am a long term caller of several different sports talk shows. The worst thing, in my opinion, is waiting 10-15 minutes on hold, for the host to finish his monologue. By that time, anybody could lose track of the question and wording is everything when it comes to a question. Also, sometimes a host can make you feel like an idiot, which is ridiculous because if it wasn't for the fans, there wouldn't be sports to talk about it.
So that is a little about me and my dreams for sports talk. As I mentioned before, I have a show, The Fan Forum on shovio.com, that airs Monday thru Friday from 9pm-10pm. I do several giveaways like tweet of the night, follower giveaway, Sway the Mouth's Mind on facebook. In order to obtain prizes, I go to many sports events and look for collectible items. If you like what you hear and want to join me in my journey to let the voice of the fan be heard, the donation button is there. In my hopes to expand, I would love to be able to get prizes from all over the country (instead of all Mets, Marlins, Dolphins gear. Hope to hear you on my show, twitter, facebook, and of course here, home of the Fan Forum.

These Mets are seriosly Flawed

As the New York Mets are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, a lot of Mets fans are surprised by this, seeing that they previously won five in a row. What I say to Mets fans is: "Wake up! I hope that you now realize how flawed this team really is."

I bleed blue and orange -- don't get me wrong. But with them currently at 55-55, it shows you just really how lucky this team has been. And this is not to take credit away from Terry Collins, who is a manager of the year candidate. But this team isn't that good if you compare them to the other teams in the NL East.

It's amazing just how well this team had played. The main problem is pitching. Mike Pelfrey hasn't turned out to be the number-one guy we thought he would be, though we have been surprised by Jonathon Niese and Dillon Gee. But to win, it takes more than just two pitchers.

Another problem is a direction ... what is the identity of the Mets? That is something that needs to be answered for this franchise. For far too long, we have been second-class citizens in our own town. The Yankees, as much as it pains me to say this, have done things the right way. They go out and get talent at the right time and by that I mean, when was the last time the Yankees signed a Kaz Matsui?

I mean really, until the organization realizes what it takes to win. Mets fans will only suffer more. I am just being honest I want them to win, but until they really hit rock bottom, they will just be mediocre -- which is sad.

I wish they could somehow bring that '86 swag back to Queens.
